Raiders Can't Keep Pace In Road Loss

Box Score

WINONA, Minn. – MSOE men's hockey was back on the ice in the Land of 10,000 Lakes and looking to come back home with two wins when they took on St. Mary's (Minn.) on Saturday. Unfortunately, the Raiders just couldn't keep up with the Cardinals in a three goal loss.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 3
St. Mary's (Minn.) – 5

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MSOE (8-5) was held scoreless in a first period where St. Mary's (5-6-1) scored the lone goal which set the table for the Raiders to start the second frame down 1-0.
  • The Red & White came back rather quickly however once teams resumed play after the first intermission. Kyle Herbster opened up the scoring with a power play goal at 3:09 before Christian Sabin struck for his first of the game less than three minutes later. Matt Hanewall picked up helpers on both tallies while Dylan Hadfield and Herbster each had one assist.
  • The Cardinals refused to go away though. SMU scored four out of the next five goals to erase the Raiders lead and establish one of their own. Sabin tried to help out the offensive effort in the third with assists going to Gramm McCormack and Herbster once more but an empty net goal with five seconds left iced any hopes of a Red & White comeback in a 5-3 loss to end their road trip.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The loss to St. Mary's (Minn.) snaps the Raiders seven game stretch without a losing decision against the Cardinals.
  • Senior Kyle Herbster now shares the lead in the NCHA with 20 points after this weekend's results.
