High Scoring Second Period Too Much For Raiders

Box Score

ANGOLA, Ind. – After a big victory last night, the Raiders tried to go for the sweep of (RV) Trine. Unfortunately, a high scoring second period created too large of a deficit for the Red & White to make up in a 5-2 loss to the Thunder.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
(RV) Trine - 5

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • (RV) Trine (12-6-1, 7-5 NCHA) found the back of the net first halfway through what was an overall quiet opening period. The Thunder made some noise quickly to start the second stanza though, scoring a goal 1:35 in.
  • Kyle Herbster got MSOE (11-6, 6-4 NCHA) on the board thanks to a feed from Christian Sabin to cut the deficit in half, but an immediate penalty from the Raiders was taken advantage of by Trine with a power play goal just over a minute later. Trine would attempt to break away from the Raiders with another strike at the 17:45 mark of the frame to lead 4-1.
  • The Raiders looked to shore up the defense early in the third period, with Sabin scoring 5:17 in to get within two. During the final minutes, the Raiders would end up pulling Austin Schwab to try and spark their comeback but an empty net Thunder goal with under a minute to play sealed the three tally defeat.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The Raiders won the faceoff battle 47-36 on the afternoon and were led by Christian Sabin with 17 victories at the dot.
