Raiders Dominate In Second Meet Of Season

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – MSOE track and field knew that they were going up against stiff competition in their second meet of the indoor season but it's the other teams at the event that should have been worried. The Raiders men's team went to work and knocked off two of the nations best programs while the women locked down another top three result at the Cardinal Opener.

RESULTS
Men's Team – 1st Place (192.5 points)
Women's Team – 3rd Place (83 points)

MEN'S TEAM RECAP

  • There wasn't just one highlight on the men's side on Saturday as the entire day was a highlight. In what head coach Bill Massoels calls "probably the most complete team effort in my 33 years of coaching," the Raiders knocked off two NCAA D-III powerhouse programs to blow by the competition and win the meet by more than 35 points over the University of Chicago and perennial CCIW champion North Central (Ill.).
  • The Red & White took each event they participated in by storm and ended the day with a total of 16 top three finishes between all events.
  • While it's hard to single out just a few different performances in such a total team effort, there were two Raiders that won their events. Sophomore Adam Shaw came away with first place in the mile with a time of 4:20.92 while senior Keegan Rhodes was victorious in the weight throw with a toss of 15.64m.

WOMEN'S TEAM RECAP

  • The field events propelled the Raiders to their third place team finish on the women's side this afternoon, with the throwers standing out specifically with a total of 33 points towards the Red & White's total.
  • MSOE locked down places two through five in the shotput and were led once against by Katrina Wawrzn in second with a mark of 12.20m. Wawrzyn also came in fourth in the weight throw (13.49m), one spot behind Ava Larson (14.00m), the Raiders leader in the event. MacKenzie Caves also helped out the MSOE effort with a second place result in the triple jump (10.72m).
  • Another event up, another record down for Kaitlyn Rodman. The junior broke her own record in the mile for the second straight week and crossed the finish line in fifth place with a time of 5:15.56.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Raiders will look to follow up on these impressive results when they make the short trip to UW-Milwaukee next Saturday for the Tierney Classic. The field events will kick things off at 10:00 am which will then be followed by track action at 2:30 pm.
