Box Score MEQUON, Wis. – After clinching the Lake Michigan Cup with a victory on Friday night, MSOE men's hockey was going for the season sweep over Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday. The Raiders tied the game to come back from an 0-2 deficit with just seconds remaining but couldn't get the go ahead tally in an overtime loss to the Falcons on the road.
FINAL SCORE - OVERTIME
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Concordia Wisconsin – 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (12-7, 7-5 NCHA) and Concordia Wisconsin (3-16, 3-9 NCHA) failed to find the back of the net in a quiet first period, and while CUW found success in the second frame, the Raiders still didn't have a crooked number up on the scoreboard after 40 minutes.
- The Falcons added another tally with just over three minutes left to play in the contest to put the Red & White down 2-0. MSOE was determined to fight back though and finally broke through with a Gramm McCormack goal from Seth Bernard and Preston Park at 17:27. It looked like things would still favor CUW after regulation time was complete but Bernard buried a setup from Cole Beilke and Ryan Reid with 18 seconds left to tie the game.
- Unfortunately, the Raiders weren't able to see the comeback through to the end. The Falcons connected at 2:50 in the overtime period for the game winning goal, snapping the Red & White's winning streak over CUW with a 3-2 defeat.
RAIDER REMARKS
- This afternoon was the first time MSOE and CUW played longer than 60 minutes in a contest against each other in quite some time. The last time overtime was required was during a 3-3 tie back in November of 2016.
- Teammates Kyle Herbster and Gramm McCormack are now second and third in the NCHA for total points on the season with 27 and 26 respectively.
