Raiders Rattle Off Three Straight Unanswered For Win

Box Score

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – MSOE men's hockey was itching to get back on the ice and put a tough December in their rearview mirror when they took on Marian to open up play in 2023. The Raiders got down early but scored three straight unanswered to pick up the valuable conference points and start the second half of the season off right.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 3
Marian – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MSOE (9-5, 4-3 NCHA) faced adversity early on in the contest but were quick to reverse their fortunes. After a Marian (5-9, 2-5 NCHA) goal at 8:36 in the first, the Red & White scored a Kevin Paganini power play goal from Carson Jones and Seth Bernard with under two minutes left before the first intermission to tie things up at 1-1.
  • The MSOE defense went into lockdown mode from there which allowed Brennan Dickey and Kyle Herbster to assist Gramm McCormack's second frame tally which proved to be the game winner at 7:16.
  • The Raiders added an insurance strike just to be safe when Herbster and CJ Kline set up Matt Hanewall with 3:46 left to go in the contest. Freshman Austin Schwab held steady in net and saved 26 shots to pick up his sixth win in a 3-1 Raiders victory.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • Though they are 4-6 in their last ten contests against Marian, the Raiders have won three straight in the series and have outscored the Sabres 13-3 during that time.
  • It was a family reunion of sorts this evening as the Red & White reunited with Marian head coach Clay Van Diest who served as the Raiders assistant over the past couple of seasons.
