Raiders Open Indoor Season With 2nd Place Finishes

CHICAGO – With the men's squad narrowly missing out on a championship last season and the women's team improving by leaps and bounds, MSOE track and field kicked off the 2023 indoor season with NACC title aspirations. The Raiders got off to a good start at the 2023 Phoenix Invitational with each group bringing home a second place finish.

Men's Team – 2nd place (89 points)
Women's Team – 2nd place (44.5 points)

MEN'S TEAM RECAP

  • The men of the Red & White were competitive all afternoon in Chicago and began the day with Isaac Hunter and Evan Ploeckelman coming in second and third in the 60 meter dash. The duo also finished the 200 meter event back to back as well with sixth and seventh place results.
  • The Raiders dominated the 800 meter run, highlighted by Adam Shaw taking the top spot. Luke Donart and Brett Litkey each earned points by finishing in the top five while two others rounded out the five runners that placed within the top ten for the school. The Red & White 4x400 meter relay teams also finished first and second at the meet.
  • The field events got started with Steve Maye (high jump – 1.85m), Grayson Adams (pole vault – 4.08m), and Tyler Brantner (long jump – 6.29m) second place finishes and was followed up by another second place result in the weight throw (Spencer Davis – 14.61m) before Keegan Rhodes closed out the event with a third place showing in the shot put

WOMEN'S TEAM RECAP  

  • The Raider women brought home a runner up finish as well which was highlighted by Kaitlyn Rodman picking up where she left off from her terrific cross country season. The junior broke the school record in the mile at the meet with a time of 5:18.40.
  • Kelsey Albovias performed well at her first collegiate competiton and crossed the line in the 60 meter hurdles with a fourth place time of 10.71.
  • The field athletes enjoyed some success as well in the Windy City. MacKenzie Caves locked down a second place finish in the long jump to go alongside a third place in the triple jump while Katrina Wawrzn's distance of 12.40m was good for second in the shot put. Rounding out the meet were teammates Ava Larson (14.26m) and Elizabeth Mikkelson (14.18m) who came in second and third respectively in the weight throw.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Raiders will continue their indoor season with a trip to the Cardinal Opener next Saturday in Naperville, Ill. That meet is scheduled to start at 11:00 am.
