Raiders Playoff Run Ends In Minigame

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ANGOLA, Ind. – MSOE men's hockey entered Saturday with a chance to advance to the Harris Cup Semifinals with a win against (RV) Trine after defeating them via a 2-1 score on Friday. The Raiders couldn't get the job done in a 5-3 game two loss though and fell in heartbreaking fashion in the minigame to see their season come to a close.

GAME TWO FINAL SCORE
No. 5 seed MSOE RAIDERS – 3
No. 4 seed (RV) Trine – 5

MINI GAME FINAL SCORE - OVERTIME
No. 5 seed MSOE RAIDERS – 0
No. 4 seed (RV) Trine – 1

HOW GAME TWO HAPPENED

  • Fifth seeded MSOE (15-12) and fourth seeded (RV) Trine (18-8-1) traded power play goals to open up game two. The Raiders strike came from Christian Sabin with assists from Kyle Herbster and Brennan Dickey.
  • The Thunder proceeded to score the games next two goals though and jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second period. The Red & White tried to even things up late in the same frame though and got within one when Herbster and CJ Kline set up Jackson Yee at 16:50.
  • The Raiders added another goal in the third (Gramm McCormack from Hayden Dalton and Stuart Harley) but Trine matched their second period production, including an empty net tally with 58 seconds left to secure their game two victory with a 5-3 score.

HOW MINI GAME HAPPENED

  • MSOE dominated the 20 minute minigame period, easily outshooting the Thunder, but even with their efforts they couldn't find the back of the net. Fortunately, Trine didn't either and the game went into "overtime".
  • The Raiders had a power play opportunity five minutes into the sudden death period but they couldn't sneak one past the Trine goalie and returned to full strength after two minutes.
  • The Thunder would get a powerplay of their own with less than five minutes to go in the extra frame and got a one timer to find the back of the net one minute into their man up chance to end the game and the Raiders season with a 1-0 decision.
