HOW IT HAPPENED
- After things started slowing in the first period, it was the man who ended last season hot Seth Bernard to nail in the first goal of the season on a power play for MSOE (0-0-1, 0-0-0 NCHA) at the 14:52 mark from Carson Jones & Adam Smith. Not even 30 seconds later, St. Scholastica (0-0-1, 0-0-0 MIAC) evened things as they headed into first break even at one.
- Déjà vu of first period trickled into the second period as Carson Jones took the feed from Bernard and Steven Guo late to jump ahead 2-1. A minute later when the Saints took the power play, they evened things up at two, heading into the break deadlocked again. The defense remained lights out on both sides in the third, with neither allowing the other to pass one to the back of the net as they headed into the overtime period.
- Austin Schwab came in clutch, stopping five shots in the three-on-three period, forcing the game to a shootout. After the Saints went ahead 1-0 with Jacob Bosse stepping in, he nailed one in to keep the shootout going when Bernard capped things on the seventh go-around to cap off opening night.
