Men Take Second, Women Finish Third at Private College Championship

KENOSHA, Wis. – The MSOE swimming & diving teams headed down to Carthage College for the Wisconsin Private College Championships. The men finished in second with Theo Thomas and Evan Scapanski each getting individual victories, while the women have a massive improvement from a season ago to finish in third.

Men's Team – 2nd Place (195 pts)

Women's Team – 3rd Place (74 pts)

MEN'S TEAM RECAP 
  • Thomas kicked off the first victory for the Raiders, winning the 100-yard freestyle in 47.53, ahead of teammate Tyler VanGompel to take second in 48.19. Scapanski won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:10.24, leading the 1-2 finish as Mateo Haeuser finished in 2:13.46.
  • Noah Cheng had two top three finishes in the distance events, first in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.60 to finish second and then a third-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle 17:58.37, finishing behind Brendan Hajdasz to took second in 17:50.18. Joven Langseth finished second in the 400-yard IM in 4:29.72, as Isaac Urban finished second as well in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:01.28.
  • Paddy Houston was one of three third-place finishes on the weekend, finishing in 56.50 in the 100-yard butterfly. Eman Padilla finished in 56.05 in the 100-yard backstroke, while Joel Walter kicked off the weekend in the 3-meter dive on Friday with a score of 314.85.
WOMEN'S TEAM RECAP  
  • Gabby Schmid had two second-place finish on the day, first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.71, and then later in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.75. Jayden Buenemann took fifth in the 400-yard IM in 5:08.52, while Emma LaPorte in the 1,650-yard freestyle also finished fifth in 19:58.01. Chloe Pisanelli also finished fifth, finishing in 2:41.76 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Raiders will have one final tune-up before the conference championships, heading to University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday, February 7th, with action set to start at 1:00 p.m.
