Raiders Fall To Aurora On Golden Goal

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - Sophomore Logan Andryk scored two first-half goals, but it was a Corey Novotny goal in overtime that proved the difference as the MSOE men's soccer team fell to Aurora 3-2 Tuesday evening at MSOE Field.

The Raiders (8-3-3, 4-2 NACC) had led 2-1 at halftime, but could not overcome a strong offensive attack by the Spartans (8-5-2, 3-2-1 NACC) after the break.

In the first half, the match was back and forth, as AU came out of the gates strong and took an early lead on Daniel Pasillas' first goal of the season in just the first minute.

MSOE quickly built some momentum and erased a 1-0 deficit on the first of two Andryk scores. In the 10th minute, senior Mat Braden sailed a high cross through the box that that AU keeper punched up field. Andryk was at the top of the box to collect the ball and deposit it in the back of the net.

Then, just 98 seconds later, senior Drew Porter found Andryk at the top of the box and he again beat the keeper for his second goal of the game and league-leading 13th of the season.

The game was back and forth throughout the remainder of the opening period, with the Red and White earning the more dangerous chances.

After the intermission, the Spartans pressured the Raider defense and got their equalizer in the form of a Jason O'Brien penalty kick less than four minutes into the second half. After they got that score, they kept attacking. For the half, Aurora outshot MSOE 16-5 and forced nine corner kicks.

In overtime, the Raiders managed to even the play somewhat, but a high ball into the box in the 95th minute sealed their fate. A couple defenders were unable to clear the ball away and Novotny pounced on the open ball and found the back of the net for the game-winner.

Junior Garrett Farin made a season-high 12 saves in the match.

The Raiders return to action Saturday at Concordia Wisconsin in Mequon. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
