Box Score HANCOCK, Mich. – The MSOE hockey team scored three unanswered goals to overcome a 1-0 deficit and hand Finlandia a 3-1 defeat Friday evening at the Houghton County Arena.
The Raiders (5-14-1, 4-9 NCHA) conceded a Lions (2-16-1, 1-12 NCHA) goal midway through the second period, but equalized late in the frame and added two goals in the third for the win.
After a scoreless first period, the home team struck first at 8:50 of the second when Justin Scott finished off assists from Thomas Kerr and Lucas Lahnala.
Freshman Jon Stevanovich pulled MSOE even on his first collegiate goal with 2:37 remaining in the period. Senior Austin Grosvenor and junior Logan Bauman assisted on the goal.
In the third period, sophomore Sean Van Eysden also got his first college score, striking for the game-winner 5:51 into the period on an assist from junior Laurie Genei. The Lions pulled their goalie in the final minute and the Raiders capitalized. Senior West Bauman found the empty net off assists from senior Steven Shaffroth and freshman Gage Christianson.
Freshman Austin Campbell made the start in goal for the Red and White, making 18 saves for his third win of the season. Troy Chandler stopped 22 shots in net for Finlandia.
The Raiders and Lions wrap up the weekend series Saturday. Puck drops at 3 p.m.
