Errors Doom Raiders In Sweep By Fontbonne

MILWAUKEE – Freshman Scott Boyk had 14 kills to lead the MSOE men's volleyball in action Saturday afternoon, a 25-21, 25-19, 25-23 loss to Fontbonne at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (4-17, 1-7 CVC) actually outscored the Griffins (8-11, 2-6 CVC) in the match 47-45, but could not overcome 22 attack errors and 13 service errors in the loss.

Boyk has put together a strong stretch, averaging 2.79 kills per set over his last nine matches to emerge as one of the team's top attack options in that time. Meanwhile, freshman Frank Tokarz finished with nine kills and hit .353 in the match.

Freshman Joe Humpal had 36 assists in the three sets and finished with three service aces.

Fontbonne was led by Aaron Graue's 13 kills on .379 hitting. The team hit .364 in the match with just 10 errors.

The Raiders hung close with the Griffins in each of the first two sets, despite allowing the visitors to hit .438 in each frame. The third set was the Red and White's best opportunity for a win, tying the score at 23-23, but Fontbonne closed out the match with back-to-back points.

MSOE returns to the court Tuesday, hosting Dominican at the Kern Center.
