Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Four players finished with double-digits kills for the No. 14 MSOE men's volleyball team, but it was not enough as it fell to Dominican 27-29, 25-17, 18-25, 25-17, 15-12 Saturday afternoon at Igini Sports Forum.
The Raiders (8-4, 1-3 MCVL) fell to the Stars (3-3, 3-0 MCVL) for their third-straight loss on the heels of an eight-match winning streak.
Senior Nick Manning led the charge with 17 kills. Freshman Neil Naughton had 15, sophomore Scott Boyl 13 to go with three aces, and freshman Bryant Holland had a double-double of 10 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Quin Krisik had 55 assists in the match.
Zachery Sinn led Dominican with 11 kills and Mason Solbrig has 10, as the Raiders racked up a 24 more attacks (143-119) and a 67-46 advantage in kills in the match. The Stars outhit the Red & White .269 to .231.
The teams alternated sets as one team simply attacked better each frame. The Raiders hit .351 in the opening frame that went extra points, but managed to attack at a .130 clip in the second set when DU hit .409. MSOE limited the Stars to .034 attacking in the third set and hit .343 to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.
Unfortunately, the Raiders would hit .138 and .053 over the final two sets as the home team came back to claim the match. In the decisive period, the Red & White led 9-7 before a 5-0 run put Dominican in the driver's seat down the stretch.
MSOE will look to get back on the winning track Monday as it heads to Plymouth to take on a Lakeland squad it downed in five sets last month in Ohio.
