Offense Stumbles as Raiders Fall at Lakeland

PLYMOUTH, Wis. - The MSOE men's volleyball team struggled to get its offense on track in falling to Lakeland 29-31, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20, Monday at Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Raiders (8-5, 1-4 MCVL) finished with a negative attacking percentage against the Muskies (8-4, 3-1 MCVL), but the home team attacked only marginally better in another tightly-played match.

Senior Nick Manning had a match-best 10 kills and added eight digs. Freshman Neil Naughton finished with nine kills.

Lakeland's Alec Redlich also tallied 10 kills on the night, with Matt Stolz contributing nine.

The Raiders claimed the first set, fighting off Lakeland down the stretch. They held a 22-16 lead, only to see the home team come back to tie the score at 23-23. The teams then traded points down the stretch and into extra points, where the Red & White prevailed 31-29.

The Muskies then fended off MSOE in the third set, breaking a 22-22 tie and scoring the 25-23 win. The final two sets saw the Raiders playing catch-up most of the frames. In the fourth, MSOE did pull within 19-18, but would get no closer. The final set fallowed a similar script, with LC taking an early lead the the Red & White forced to chase the match.

MSOE struggled on the attack all night, finishing with 39 errors against 38 kills and a -.007 attack percentage. The Muskies attacked .078 on the night, finishing with just two more kills (40).

The Raiders will look to bounce back this weekend at the Stritch Invitational in Glendale.
