Box Score 2 MEQUON, Wis. – The MSOE men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the second day of the Stritch Invitational, Saturday at Cardinal Stritch University.
The Raiders (9-8) fell to Morningside (7-8) in the opener, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19, before dropping the day's second match to the host Wolves (10-9), 35-33, 28-26, 21-25, 25-22.
Freshman Ben Clarke and senior Nick Manning had eight kills apiece against the Mustangs. Freshman Neil Naughton tallied six kills and hit. 417.
MSOE fought hard against Morningside, but just could not sort the Mustang defense. It hit .193, and faced eight total blocks, in the match. Meanwhile, MU hit .309 in the match, closing it out with a .407 clip in the final set.
The day's second match was a heartbreaker, as the Raiders pushed the hosts to extra points in each of the first two sets of the match before winning the third. They could not overcome CSU's .405 attack percentage in the opening set and hit just .075 in the second.
MSOE held the Wolves to .086 attacking as it forced a fourth set, but could not hold on any longer in dropping the fourth set.
Overall, the Raiders hit .206 in the match and out-killed Stritch 67-58. The Wolves hit attack at a .264 clip and finished with over 15 blocks.
Manning and Naughton had 16 kills apiece to pace the offense. Sophomore Logan Baerenwald had a double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs. Sophomore Scott Boyk added 12 kills of his own.
Stritch had five players in double-figures, head by 13 kills each from Jason Bowles and Connor O'Ryan.
