Box Score ST. LOUIS – Senior Nick Manning had 13 kills and four service aces as the No. 12 MSOE men's volleyball team swept past Fontbonne, 25-21, 25-22, 25-16, Friday evening at Mabee Gymnasium.
The Raiders (16-10, 7-5 MCVL) downed the Griffins (5-21, 1-12 MCVL) to pull into the fourth and final MCVL Tournament spot with two regular season matches remaining. They hold a one match edge over Lakeland (6-6).
Manning was the only player in the match with double-digit kills. Sophomore Logan Baerenwald had an efficient night, tallying nine kills against one error for a .533 attack percentage. Freshman Quin Krisik had 33 assists to direct the offense.
Fontbonne was led by Aaron Graue's six kills. Peter Hibbeler had five kills on six attempts (.833).
Both teams struggled in the opening set, with MSOE hitting just .069 against the Griffin's -.038. The second set was equally as tightly contested with the Red & White hitting .346 to edge the home team's .33.
The final set was more decisive for the Raiders, as they hit .281 to close out the match. Defensively, they limited Fontbonne to just four kills and -.045 attacking.
MSOE attacked .230 in the match. It outkilled the home side 40-22 and limited it to .072 hitting on the night.
The Raiders return to the court Sunday at No. 13 Mount St. Joseph.
