Box Score MILWAUKEE – The No. 13 MSOE men's volleyball team closed out the regular season in a three-set sweep of Benedictine, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21 Wednesday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (17-11, 8-6 MCVL) did what they needed to do for an MCVL Tournament bid by downing the Eagles (7-16, 4-10 MCVL) for the fourth time this season. With a Lakeland loss, MSOE clinched the fourth seed in the tourney and will play against the regular season champion Carthage in the MCVL Semifinals April 10 in Kenosha.
Senior Nick Manning led the way for the Red & White in his final collegiate home match, tallying nine kills. It was a balanced effort, with sophomore Logan Baerenwald adding eight kills and two more players finishing with seven apiece.
Freshman Quin Krisik posted a double-double with 35 kills and 10 digs.
Sterling Glover had eight kills for Benedictine and John Matthews finished with seven.
The Raiders came out of the gates motivated, attacking at a .308 clip in taking a 1-0 lead in the match. They used several mini runs to pull away throughout the set. It helped that, defensively, Benedictine was limited to a -.031 attack percentage.
The second set was back and forth throughout, until the Raiders broke a 19-19 tie with five-straight points to force set point. They then closed out the frame on a BenU attack error. Both teams had their struggles, as each side attack at .000 for the set.
MSOE claimed the final set and the match in similar fashion to the second, with the teams tied at 19-19 late. The Red & White then seized control with three-straight points to go into the driver's seat. After a pair of Eagle points, the Raiders rattled off three-straight points again to close out the match.
The Raiders finished the night attacking .160 for the match with 40 kills, compared to .053 and 26 kills for the visitors.
MSOE's 17 wins are tied for the second-most in school history.
