#13 Raiders' Season Ends at #8 Carthage in MCVL Semis

Box Score

KENOSHA, Wis. - Senior Nick Manning had 12 kills and the No. 13 MSOE men's volleyball team hit .226, but it was not enough in a 25-23, 25-21, 25-17 loss to No. 8 Carthage in the MCVL Tournament semifinals Friday evening at Tarble Arena.

The Raiders (17-12) saw their season come to an end with the second-most wins in school history. The top-seeded Red Men (22-6) advances to the championship match Saturday against Mount St. Joseph.

Manning capped his career with 12 kills on an efficient .320 hitting. Freshman Ben Clarke added seven kills, while freshman Quin Krisik had 30 assists.

Griffin Shields had 14 kills for Carthage and Jon Storm added 11. Ricky Figueroa had 38 kills, as the home team's attack was efficient to the tune of 44 kills against just 13 errors for a .356 attack percentage.

The Red & White played its closest set in the opening frame, leading 19-16 late. It was still ahead by two at 22-20, but the Red Men closed out the set on a 5-1 run to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, the Raiders fell behind 13-4 early, but went on a 12-6 run to pull within 19-16. Unfortunately, that was as close as they would get. The final set began the same way, with Carthage jumping out to another 13-4 lead. This time, MSOE could not rebound in succumbing to the MCVL regular season champions in three sets.

Carthage hit over .400 in each of the final two sets, including .462 in the third set.

MSOE's 17 wins are just one back of the program record of 18 set in 2010.
