Box Score 2 HANCOCK, Mich. – The MSOE women's volleyball team swept its fourth-straight opponent in conference rival Rockford Saturday in the first match of the day at the Finlandia Invitational.
The Raiders (9-1) dominated the Regents in the first match of the tournament's final day, 25-14, 25-6, 25-19, before suffering a five-set defeat to UW-Superior, 10-25, 25-22, 20-25, 26-24, 11-15.
Junior Rachel Lynde led the team with 12 kills against Rockford, while freshman Hannah Pekarek and senior Leah Hendricks had particularly efficient matches. Pekarek tallied nine kills with a .571 attack percentage and Hendricks hit .583 on her way to eight kills.
As a team, the Red & White hit .342, including single-set percentages of .500 in the first and .611 in the second. On the other end, the Regents tallied just 13 kills as a team, against 17 errors for a -.061 attack percentage. RU did not hit above .000 in any set.
Coming off four-straight swept opponents, the Raiders faced a stiffer challenge, despite winning the first set 25-10, against the Yellow Jackets.
Pekarek tallied a season-high 23 kills to go with 14 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Hendricks notched 16 kills, 11 digs and six service aces, as Lynde also had a strong outing with 16 more kills.
Sophomore Abby Born tallied 56 assists in the match, fourth-most in a match in school history, and junior Sarabeth Haworth finished with 25 digs.
For the match, MSOE outhit UWS .210 to .169 with a 64-45 advantage in kills. It also tallied 14 more points (78-64), despite the loss.
Still riding by far the best start in school history at 9-1, the Raiders are set to open NACC play when they return to action Tuesday, hosting Concordia Wisconsin at the Kern Center.
