Box Score AURORA, Illinois – Sophomore Stephen Bagin scored the game-winning goal to overcome an early 1-0 deficit and send the MSOE men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Aurora Wednesday afternoon at Vago Field.
The Raiders (8-5, 4-1 NACC) downed the Spartans' (4-6-1, 2-3 NACC) for their fourth-straight win.
Bagin's winner came after a stout defensive play by junior Danny Lonski. He won a ball in the defensive third and sent an outlet pass down the far side of the field. Bagin ran on to it, beat his defender and then sent a shot off the on-rushing keeper's outstretched hand and into the goal far post.
Aurora had scored first in the 31st minute after Ben Edith finished with a header in the middle of the penalty area off a cross from the far side. It provided the second-straight match the Raiders would come back from an early deficit for the win.
Junior Braden Andryk netted the equalizer just before halftime, starting the play when he burst through the midfield to win a header. The ball fell to junior Sean Tabbert, who then played a through ball to the still-running Andryk. He tracked the ball into the box and beat the keeper with a one-touch shot high into the net just 43 seconds from the intermission.
The goal was his league-leading 15th goal of the season and marked the seventh-straight game in which he's scored a goal.
The Raiders held a slight shot advantage in the game at 13-12, including 7-4 in shots on goal, while both teams forced nine corner kicks.
Senior Jeff Clements stopped three of the four AU shots on goal, while Zach McFarland stopped five shots for the Spartans.
MSOE looks to continue its run Saturday, hosting Dominican in a rematch of the last two NACC Championships matches—both won by the Raiders.
