Box Score MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's volleyball team played a tight match with one of the league's teams for the second-straight outing, but could not hold on after an opening-game victory in a 20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-21 loss to Concordia Wisconsin Tuesday night at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (12-16, 4-7 NACC) hung with the Falcons (25-2, 11-0 NACC) throughout much of the final three sets before the visitors pulled away each time. With the win, CUW closed out a perfect league season and clinched a second-straight outright league title.
MSOE played second-place Aurora Saturday, falling in three hard-fought sets.
Sophomore Allie Laurent had a double-double of 27 assists and 15 digs in the match while senior Rachel Lynde finished with nine kills, 17 digs and five total blocks (two solo). Sophomore Kylie Kamm chipped in eight kills and junior Elsey Kohlmann had seven.
Junior Shelby Borchardt led the back-row defense with 23 digs.
Amanda Schultz and Kailey Erdman had 12 kills apiece to lead Concordia Wisconsin, with Erdman adding 16 digs.
The Red & White fell behind early at 10-4 before bouncing back with a big 12-2 run to seize a 16-12 lead in the game. The lead would peak at six before the team scored the final three points to take a 1-0 lead in the match. It was just Concordia Wisconsin's third dropped game of NACC play.
CUW bounced back in the second game. MSOE led 16-15 in a tight frame before the visitors scored the next six points to kick-start a 10-1 run to close out the set and pull even in the match. Then, in the third game, the Raiders led 21-19 before the Falcons scored six of the final seven points to claim the set.
The fourth and final game followed the same script. The score was tied as late as 15-15 when the Falcons scored four-straight points to pull away a bit and MSOE could not rebound.
For the match, the Red & White hit .104 while holding CUW to its lowest attacking percentage since Sept. 15 at .107.
The Raiders close out the season this weekend at Benedictine's Eagle Classic Friday and Saturday in Lisle, Illinois. MSOE opens the tournament Friday at 4 p.m. against Greenville.
