Men's Volleyball Shoots Past Marian in Three

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's volleyball team hit .446 for the match, including .500 in each of the final two sets, in rolling to a sweep of Marian 25-18, 25-13, 25-18 Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (11-2, 8-1 MCVL) posted the third-best hitting percentage in school history and held the Sabres (6-11, 3-7 MCVL) to just .013 attacking in the win.

Junior Logan Baerenwald played the first two sets and had a match-best 11 kills on .450 attacking. Senior Joe Humpal played just the third set and had seven kills on 10 attacks. Senior Scott Boyk also played the final set and had five kills on seven attacks (.714).

Aaron Wendels led Marian with seven kills in the match.

The opening game was tied at 9-9 when the Raiders went on a 7-1 run to get some separation. They led 20-16 before scoring five of the last seven points of the frame. Then, in the second set it was an extended 14-4 stretch that turned a 4-4 tie into an 18-8 Red & White lead on the way to a 2-0 score in the match.

MSOE then posted 3-0 runs in the beginning, middle, and latter portions of the final set to open a 22-14 lead. The Sabres would respond with a 5-2 run but by then it was too late.

The Raiders hit just .273 in the opening set, then followed that up with attacking percentages of .500 in the second game and .536 in the third. Defensively, the Red & White had 9.5 total blocks and held Marian to just 22 kills against 21 errors.

The Raiders return to the court Wednesday, hosting Cardinal Stritch.
