Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE – The MSOE volleyball hit .359 in sweep past Division I Quincy 25-21, 25-19, 25-16 in the first of two matches Friday at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (8-3, 6-1 NACC) played the Hawks in the afternoon, then came back to take down Concordia Wisconsin (0-16, 0-6 NACC) in three sets, 25-14, 25-19, 25-22, at night.
Senior Bryant Holland had 12 kills and senior Sam Stealy 10 to lead the charge in the opener. Senior Andrew Miller notched 36 assists in the match and had four kills on five attacks.
Anthony Winter had a team-high nine kills for Quincy.
MSOE used lengthy runs to pull away from the Hawks in each set and put the match away. In the opening frame, it was an 11-3 run to turn a 12-11 deficit into a 22-15 lead. Then, in the second, the team expanded on a 9-7 lead with 8-of-10 points to make it 17-9.
The Raiders saved the best for last, hitting .630 in the third game with 17 kills against no errors. They led 16-15 before rattling off eight-straight points to effectively remove doubt in the match.
The Red & White had 45 kills in the match with just 12 errors, adding five service aces, and 7.0 total blocks. Quincy tallied just 29 kills in the match, hitting .157 with 15 errors.
MSOE returned to conference play against Concordia Wisconsin in the evening, limiting the visitors to -.072 attacking on the night.
A completely different lineup took the floor, led by senior Logan Baerenwald. He tallied 13 kills and nine digs in the match. Freshman Griffin Dunn had eight kills and freshman Nick Beck finished with three service aces.
Isaac Glynn paced CUW with six kills.
MSOE finished the match with 30 kills and hitting .121. The team tallied 7.0 blocks, including four for freshman Luke Carpenter and three for junior Brian Jones. Both middle blockers had two solo blocks each. The Falcons had 17 kills against 23 errors in the match.
The Raiders return to the court Saturday at Marian with their fourth match of the week.
