Gauthier's Two Goals Not Enough In Overtime Draw

Box Score

HANCOCK, Mich. – #11 MSOE hockey took to the road for the last time this calendar year, heading to Michigan to take on Finlandia in a two-game weekend series. The Raiders dominated the offensive statistics, outshooting the Lions 35-19, but weren't able to pull ahead in the 2-2 tie on Friday night.

Final In Overtime
#11 MSOE – 2
Finlandia – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
#11 MSOE (6-1-2, 1-1-2) never held the lead in this evenings contest and had to come from behind twice just to tie up the matchup. Finlandia (2-7-2, 0-5-2) started the scoring when they pushed one past goalie Rock Boynton at 7:43 in the first period to make it 1-0. While neither team scored for the rest of the first frame, the Raiders kept the trend of scoring early in periods going with a tally in the second by Will Gauthier at 0:57 to tie the game at 1-1. Evan Kearns and Stian Owens were the helpers on the first Red & White goal, and Owens would get involved again, but not before the Lions took back the lead on a power play goal with just 1:27 elapsed in the final period of regulation. Gauthier once again found of the back of the net thanks to the previously mentioned pass from Owens, but that would be the last goal either team produced in the time remaining. MSOE was the only squad to garner a shot in the five-minute overtime period, but it would be turned away in the Raiders second tie of the season.
