Box Score MILWAUKEE – Freshman Jacob Sirny (Brookfield, Wis./East) hit an astronomical .706 and senior Quin Krisik (Itasca, Ill./Itasca) crept even closer to the programs all time assist record as the No. 10 MSOE men's volleyball team celebrated their outgoing seniors with a 3-1 over Marian on Saturday afternoon inside Hotchkin Arena.
RESULTS
Marian – 1 (25, 22, 20, 16)
#10 MSOE Raiders – 3 (23, 25, 25, 25)
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was senior day this afternoon, as No. 10 MSOE (18-6, 12-2 NACC) wrapped up their regular season home slate by honoring Brian Jones (Appleton, Wis./North) and Krisik before the match against Marian (10-13, 8-7 NACC). The danger of celebratory games is that they can get you out of your pre-match rhythm. This happened to be the case in set one, as the Sabres used a three-point lead to put space between the two teams to open the match with 25-23 win.
The Raiders got their heads back in the game quickly however, taking the next three. MSOE hit a match high .333 in set number two, as they established the lead off of a 5-1 run in the middle portion of the contest to win 25-22. The margin of victory kept growing from there. The Red & White set another high-water mark in the third set, slamming down 16 kills. The Sabres never led in the third, as the Raiders were able to strung together numerous different rallies for the 25-20 win to put them up 2-1.
What started out as small rallies in the third grew into bigger ones in the fourth, as the MSOE put together three or more points five different times in the 25-16 Sabres defeat. The Raiders had six service aces in the last set of the contest, including back to back Jake Christensen (Kenosha, Wis./Lakeview Technology Academy) aces to end the game, giving the Red & White their tenth straight victory and moving them closer to locking up one of the top seeds for the NACC tournament.
TEAM STAT OF THE GAME
The win this afternoon marks the seventh straight time that the Raiders have defeated the Sabres. During the current streak, Marian has failed to win more than one set in any match.
