Raiders Overcome Serving Miscues To Stay Perfect On Season

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – It was a wild one inside Hotchkin Arena again tonight as MSOE men's volleyball took on CCIW foe North Central. Things were tough going for the Raiders in the first two sets, but they battled through the miscues to win their second straight five set match.

RESULTS
North Central – 2 (25, 25, 20, 23, 13)
(RV) MSOE – 3 (23, 22, 25, 25, 15)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The service game was not (RV) MSOE's (3-0, 0-0 NACC) friend this evening as issues getting the ball over the net cost them the first two sets against North Central (1-2, 0-0 CCIW). The Raiders were serving the ball either too hard or two short. As the errors piled up, the Cardinals took advantage even though the Raiders were still attacking better than them. With eight service errors in the first set and another eight in the second, the Red & White were down 0-2 via scores of 23-25 and 22-25 respectively. But MSOE adjusted. They would go on to miss their mark only nine times in the three remaining sets combined, which allowed them to focus on other aspects of offense and defense. Set three saw the Raiders hit .321 and took advantage of seven NCC errors to win 25-20. The next two were nail biters, as North Central stormed back after the Raiders had posted a sizeable lead in each. Jacob Sirny entered the match and became a game changer right away. The sophomore had eight kills and no errors on 11 total attacks for a .727 hitting percentage. The rest of the team improved their all-around numbers as well in the fourth, where they won 25-23. The Raiders held a five-point lead at one point in the final frame, and just when the Cardinals got back into the deciding set Ben Pung slammed the door on them with two kills to stay perfect on the season with a 15-13 final frame victory.
