HOW IT HAPPENED
The first game of the afternoon was a five-set thriller between No. 11 MSOE (8-2, 0-0 NACC) and the host Cardinal Stritch University (8-2, 6-0 CCAC). After the Raiders won the first set, CSU took the next two thanks to 20 combined kills and only six errors. The Red & White hit .333 for the match and used a single error fourth set to tie the game up at 2-2 heading into the deciding fifth frame. Even though the Raiders had 15 kills in the shortened deciding set, the Wolves still took them to extra points. Tied 18-18, Jake Christensen slammed the ball home for a kill to give the Raiders a one-point lead before a Cardinal Stritch attacking error gave MSOE the match by the score of 3-2.
The Red & White weren't so fortunate in the second match of the afternoon, however. The Raiders committed 29 attacking errors which gave them an average of .095 for their hitting percentage across the four sets against the Mustangs. MSOE also had 17 service errors that went against their cause. Mount Mercy won the first set 25-20 and the third set 25-11 to put the Raiders down by one heading into the fourth. It was in that frame that the Raiders allowed the Mustangs to close out the match on a 5-2 run, with four of those points coming via kills in the 3-1 loss.
