Box Score MILWAUKEE – It was a big test for MSOE men's volleyball this evening as they welcomed No. 2 Carthage to the Kern Center. While the Raiders certainly did not fail the test, they weren't quite able to take control in any set as they fell to the Firebirds 3-0 on Friday night.
RESULT
No. 2 Carthage – 3 (25, 25, 25)
MSOE RAIDERS – 0 (19, 21, 20)
HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (7-5, 6-2 NACC) looked good overall against the second-best team in the nation. The Raiders stayed right with No. 2 Carthage (14-0, 9-0 CCIW) in each set and were truly never out of contention. The Red & White had their best hitting frame in the first, attacking at a .280 clip with 13 kills, but a 9-4 Firebirds run to start play put the Raiders into a hole and were never able to catch up. It was a back-and-forth affair in the second which featured eight ties and three lead changes. The two teams were knotted up at 21-21 before Carthage went on a 4-0 run to win the set. MSOE never led in the third and final stanza but were within two or three points until the very end. Ultimately, it was Carthage who stayed undefeated on the season with the Raiders falling in three straight sets.
