Raiders Fall In Close Contest

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – MSOE men's volleyball was looking to make it two straight inside the Kern Center when they hosted Benedictine on Wednesday night. The Raiders were within striking distance during each game but the Eagles prevailed in a four set match.

RESULT
Benedictine – 3 (25 | 25| 23 | 25)
MSOE RAIDERS – 1 (21 | 17 | 25 | 20)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MSOE (9-6, 4-1 NACC) played a much stronger game than the final score might imply as they were in contention for each set besides the second frame. The night started with a 25-21 loss to Benedictine (8-7, 4-1 NACC) but featured a six-point comeback that almost swung the result the other way.
  • Set two was a little more straightforward. The Red & White never led in the match and allowed the Eagles to go on three different runs of at least three straight points in a 25-17 defeat.
  • MSOE stormed back in the third though and made sure that it wouldn't be a straight sets loss. The Raiders hit a game high .375 and slammed home 12 kills. They certainly had to work for the 25-23 victory however as the frame was tied almost point for point starting at 10-10.
  • It looked like the match might go the distance as the Red & White jumped out to a 7-3 lead to begin the fourth. Unfortunately, Benedictine found their way back into the set and eventually took back that lead. MSOE still had a chance towards the end but nine errors sealed their fate in a 25-20 loss to end the ballgame.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The matches between the Raiders and Eagles have usually been slugfests. The Red & White hold the series advantage 10-5 but Benedictine has won the last two contests.
  • Six different Raiders registered at least one block assist.
