Box Score LISLE, Ill. – After their weeklong road trip last week, MSOE returned to conference play traveling down to Benedictine University Friday evening, falling in a heartbreaking battle with the Eagles.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Benedictine - 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Benedictine (9-7, 4-0 NACC) looked to be rattled to start the first set leading to MSOE (4-11, 2-1 NACC) being able to jump out to a 9-5 lead early on. The Raiders were able to carry that momentum through out the remainder of the first set to end on a 4-0 run to take it 25-21. The Eagles controlled themselves to begin the second set as their defense forced the Raiders to only have an attacking percentage of .097 through the entire set, running away 25-17 to tie it at one set each.
- The Raiders locked in to begin the third set as they held a short lead in the beginning stages before eventually leading 17-13 thanks to a Nick Stachura service ace. The Eagles clawed their way back to push the set past the 25-point mark, but it was all Raiders to finish it, winning 27-25.
- The Eagles came to play to start the fourth set as they led 19-12 through the midway point of the set. A 5-0 run from the Raiders that included two service aces from Stachura cut their deficit to 19-17, but it was all Eagles as they won 25-21 to force a fifth set. The battle was completely tight as the Eagles put an early gap to lead 8-5, but Carter Shavitz led a 3-0 to tie it back at 8. They ultimately went past the 15-point mark, but the Eagles rattled off the last two points to win 17-15.
RAIDER REMARKS
- Three different Raiders had double-digit kill totals, led by Tommy Clausz with 12.
- The serving from the Raiders looked to be their weapon as they led the service aces battle 7-1.
