Lions Outhit Raiders In Four-Set Loss Friday

CINCINNATI – Mount St. Joseph outhit the MSOE men's volleyball team .230 to .083 in handing the Raiders a 25-17, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19 loss Friday evening at the Harrington Center.

MSOE (4-10, 1-3 CVC) was led by sophomore Logan Baerenwald's 10 kills, while Alex Vohland paced the Lions (11-7, 2-2 CVC) with 17.

In the first set, the score was tied at 13-13 before MSJ scored seven-straight points to break things open and take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Raiders were limited to -.130 attacking in the frame, but bounced back to hit .423 with 14 kills and just errors in claiming set two. They used a 10-4 run to turn an 11-9 deficit into a 19-15 lead and then fended off the Lions down the stretch.

MSOE struggled again in the third set, attacking -.059, but it was Mount St. Joseph that controlled the third set with a .346 attack percentage. The Lions used a 6-2 run to take control of the third set and then closed it out with four of the last five points. The final set saw the home team lead from end to end to claim the match.

Freshman Scott Boyk added nine kills for the Red and White, while sophomore Brett Herbers hit a team-best .333 with six kills.

The Raiders continue their road trip Saturday, playing at Fontbonne in St. Louis.
