Box Score MILWAUKEE – Junior Brent Finnegan and freshman Andrew Clemens each scored four goals and assisted on three others as the MSOE lacrosse team won its second game of the season, 16-0, over Dubuque Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.
The Raiders (2-11) won two games in a season for the first time, while keeping the Spartans (0-12) off the scoreboard for their second shutout in program history.
MSOE started strong, getting the scoring started at 11:32 of the first quarter and finding the back of the net for six goals in the opening frame. Finnegan scored a natural hat trick, tallying the last three scores in order.
In the second quarter, Clemens struck twice as the Red and White scored six more times. Three of the team's goals came in a 52-second span, including Finnegan's fourth goal with 22 seconds to go and one of junior Zachary Dawiec's three goals just 11 seconds later. The second goal came after MSOE won the face-off from the previous score.
In the second half, the Raiders added three more goals in the third and one in the fourth to break a school record for goals in a game. The record was 15 set in their previous win this season, 15-0 at Defiance. The two shutouts are also the first two clean sheets in team history.
Junior goalie Adam Kocsis made 10 saves in the game to keep the Spartans off the board. MSOE outshot the visitors 56-21 in the match.
Finnegan, Clemens and Dawiec are the first Red and White trio to each tally a hat trick in one contest. For Clemens, it was his ninth-straight game scoring a goal and pushed his team-high total to 23 goals this season, just one off Finnegan's school record of 24 set last season.
Four other Raiders scored goals, led by sophomore Zachary Markell's two. Juniors Jesus Arguelles, Aaron Chun and senior Zack Nielsen also scored.
MSOE returns to the road mid-week, playing at MLC foe Fontbonne Wednesday in St. Louis.
