Raiders Fall Short Against Aurora, 1-0

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Xavier Ortiz scored the game's lone goal on a 35-yard strike in the first half as Aurora topped the MSOE men's soccer team 1-0 Wednesday evening at Viets Field.

The Raiders (9-3, 4-1 NACC) saw their five-match winning streak snapped at the hands of the Spartans (5-6-1, 3-1-1 NACC) despite a 19-4 advantage in shots and 11-1 in corner kicks.

MSOE controlled possession throughout the game, but it was Aurora striking just before halftime as Ortiz collected the ball with his back to goal, spun and struck a blast into the upper corner to give the visitors the 1-0 lead.

The Raiders did not relent, asserting more numbers forward in the second half in hopes of snagging the equalizer. Unfortunately, that goal never came.

Senior Brock Shilling had the team's best chance in the first half, hitting the crossbar in the 35th minute. Three different players led the Red & White with three shots apiece.

Junior Sean Stelter made a diving save on the night as he got the start in goal.

The Raiders return to action Saturday, playing at Dominican in a rematch of the 2014 NACC Championship game.
