Box Score MILWAUKEE - Senior Brent Finnegan scored two goals as four different players scored for the MSOE lacrosse team in a 22-5 loss to defending conference champion Aurora Wednesday evening at Viets Field.
The Raiders (2-4, 1-2 MLC) could not contain the Spartans (4-5, 1-0 MLC) as they jumped out to a 13-1 lead by halftime.
In addition to Finnegan, senior James Simonson scored in his season debut after battling injury. Junior Zachary Markell and freshman Thomas Reid also got on the score sheet.
Garret Rosiek was Aurora's driving force, tallying three goals and five assists in the game. Bailey Smith and Nolan Miller also netted three goals for the visitors.
Reid's goal came early on as he intercepted a pass from the AU goalie and fired a shot back into the net to make it just 4-1 in the final minute of the opening quarter. Unfortunately, the Spartans struck twice in the final 34 seconds and expanded their lead to 13-1 at halftime with seven second-quarter goals.
Finnegan scored his first goal in the third quarter and capped the game's scoring with 5:29 remaining. Markell and Simonson's goals were back-to-back early in the final period, just 1:42 apart.
Both MSOE goalies, freshmen Pat Collins and Sam Kopecky, saw action. Collins made the start and had seven saves in just over 37 minutes. Kopecky had five saves in 22:56 of action.
Senior Maxwell Wasscher led the defensive unit with four caused turnovers and three gound balls. He also added an assist on Finnegan's second score. Senior Jesus Arguelles had a team-best five ground balls.
The Raiders hit the road this weekend for a pair of games in Alma, Mich. They take on Franciscan Saturday and host Alma Sunday.
