Box Score MT. VERNON, Iowa – Freshman Pat Collins made 17 saves and two players scored two goals apiece to lead the MSOE lacrosse team to an 8-3 victory over Cornell College Wednesday evening at Ash Park.
The Raiders (7-9, 2-4 MLC) broke a 1-1 tie with the Rams (3-9, 1-4 MLC) by scoring five-straight goals, then put the match out of reach with the final two scores of the night.
Senior Michael Caelwaerts and freshman Oliver Kennedy scored two goals apiece. Three difference players added goals, while senior Brent Finnegan assisted on a pair of goals.
Carlos Siguenza scored twice for Cornell.
The Rams put MSOE on the board first with an own goal midway through the opening quarter, then tied the score with just over a minute remaining.
The Red & White offense got started in the second quarter when Caelwaerts tallied the go-ahead goal. After senior Zachary Dawiec added another goal, Caelwaerts scored again to make it 4-1 at halftime.
Junior Zachary Markell opened the second half scoring just 36 seconds after the break and Kennedy extended the Raiders' lead to five goals four minutes later.
Cornell would pull a pair of goals back, but freshman Oliver Winsor and Kennedy scored goals late in regulation to secure the victory.
Collins withstood a 43-21 shot advantage, stopping 17 shots and collecting five ground balls. Senior Maxwell Wasscher aided his rookie netminder with a team-high four caused turnovers and five ground balls.
MSOE closes out the regular season Saturday at Carroll.
