Box Score WAUKESHA, Wis. – Senior Brent Finnegan nearly doubled the school record for goals in a game with nine as the MSOE lacrosse team capped a standout 2015 campaign with a 20-1 victory over Carroll Saturday evening at Schneider Stadium.
The Raiders (8-9) tied a school record for team goals in a game against the Pioneers (0-6), while Finnegan demolished the individual record of five goals in a game by freshman Clay Gustafson from the season opener.
Gustafson and junior Zachary Markell added three goals and two assists each, while freshman Oliver Winsor had two goals and four assists.
Finnegan scored four goals in the opening quarter and twice more in the second as MSOE found the back of the net six times in each of the first two quarters for a 12-0 lead at halftime. It then scored the first two goals of the second half before Carroll got on the board to make it 14-1.
The Red & White finished strong with six goals in the final quarter.
The match was never close, as Raiders outshot the Pioneers 72-5 in the match. They also had significant advantages in ground balls, 52-21, and won 23-of-24 face-offs.
Freshman Sam Kopecky made his first start and stopped three shots over 45 minutes for the win. Freshman Pat Collins played the final quarter, but was not tested.
Senior James Simonson collected 12 ground balls and caused four turnovers in the game. Senior Jesus Arguelles had 11 ground balls and senior Maxwell Wasscher collected five ground balls and caused five turnovers.
Finnegan, the program's all-time leading scorer, broke the school record for goals (36) and points (56) in a season. He capped his career with 84 goals, 37 assists and 121 points.
The match capped a tremendous season for the Raiders. They easily surpassed school records with eight wins (old record: two), 166 goals (77) and a 9.71 GAA (13.67).
