Andryk's Big Day Sends Raiders Past Augsburg

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - Senior Logan Andryk scored two goals and assisted on a third to lead the MSOE men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Augsburg Sunday afternoon at Viets Field.

The Raiders (2-1) scored first in the 10th minute and added the game-winner just 34 seconds into the second half to get past the visiting Auggies (0-3).

Andryk assisted on the first goal with a cross just past the far post. Sophomore Gregory Borsari headed it back across goal to senior Mike Skow, who headed it past the keeper for the 1-0 lead.

MSOE forced Augsburg into a defense shell in the early-going, playing much of the first 20 minutes in the attacking half. After that point, the play leveled out a bit, but the Raiders held their guests without a shot until they scored in the 49th minute.

Coming out of halftime, one-touch passes from senior Jorn Witte and sophomore Braden Andryk freed Logan Andryk past the Auggie defense. He one-touched a blast into the net from 15 yards out to make it 2-0 and stand as the eventual game-winner.

Augsburg pulled a goal back after a corner kick resulted in a loose ball bouncing around the box. The team's first shot came in the scrum and Jason Scheeler followed up on the rebound to pull a goal back with just over 41 minutes to play.

Logan Andryk secured the victory in the 62nd minute with his third goal in two games, converting from the penalty spot for the second-straight day. He initially earned a free kick from just outside the penalty area. Braden Andryk's attempt on goal was blocked by the wall, but the ball bounced around and was judged to have been handled by a defender, earning the Raiders a penalty kick.

Junior Sean Stelter played the first 24-plus minutes in goal before giving way with an injury, but earned the win. Junior Jeff Clements played the final 65:45 and made one save to preserve the result.

MSOE forced a 16-5 advantage in shots and 11-2 edge in corner kicks, with Tommy Molski being forced into five saves for the Auggies.

The Raiders remain home to take on UW-Platteville Wednesday. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
