Winsor Sets Assists Record in Raiders' Rout

MILWAUKEE – Sophomore Oliver Winsor set a school record with seven assists and tied a record with 10 points to lead the MSOE lacrosse team to a decisive 18-5 victory over Clarke Wednesday evening at Viets Field.

The Raiders (1-1) had five different players score multiple goals, including four total hat tricks, to upend the Crusaders (1-3) in their home opener.

Winsor broke Brent Finnegan's school record of six assists set last season, while he scored three times himself to tie Finnegan's record of 10 points, also set last season.

Sophomore Clay Gustafson had four goals and four assists on the night. Sophomore Oliver Kennedy and senior Zach Markell had three goals apiece, with Kennedy adding two assists. Freshman Jack Fisher netted his first collegiate goal with two assists. Senior Nathan Tatara and sophomore Jake Carney also scored goals in the game.

Kaleb Cordova led Clarke with two goals.

The Raiders scored the first seven goals of the game and never looked back. Winsor had four assists in the first five minutes of the match, assisting on three-straight goals to push the score to 7-0.

Clarke pulled a goal back to end the first quarter, the tallied back-to-back goals to pull within 7-3.

MSOE went on a 4-1 run to close the half and scored the first four goals of the second half to put the game out of reach at 15-4.

The Red & White held a sizable 45-15 shot advantage in the game, including 36-10 in shots on goals. The Raiders also picked up 13 (50-37) more ground balls and won the turnover battle, 34-28. Sophomore Pat Collins earned the win in goal with four saves in 55-plus minutes of action. Senior Zach Polak made one save in his college lacrosse debut and had one save.

Dylan Kelley stopped 18 shots for the Crusaders.

The Raiders return to the field Saturday, hosting Carthage at 1 p.m.
