Box Score MILWAUKEE – Sophomores Clay Gustafson and Oliver Kennedy scored three goals each to lead the MSOE lacrosse team to a 13-5 victory over Dubuque Wednesday evening at Viets Field.
The Raiders (4-5) broke open a tight game with seven goals in the second quarter, including a start to an 8-1 run, to pull away from the Spartans (1-8).
Gustafson added a pair of assists, while senior Zach Markell and sophomores Oliver Kennedy and Thomas Reid had two goals apiece. Freshman Jack Fisher added three assists on the night.
Icle Freeland led Dubuque with two goals.
MSOE led 2-1 after one quarter, then outscoring UD 7-3 in the second to take a 9-4 lead into halftime. After the break, it was all Raiders, as they scored two more times in the third quarter and added another two goals in the fourth to seal the victory. The Spartans added a late man-up goal.
Dubuque had pulled within 5-3 at the 9:01 of the second quarter, but the Red & White responded with an 8-1 run to open a 13-4 lead late in the fourth quarter.
The Raiders outshot the visitors 37-25 on the night, including 32-12 in shots on goal. Sophomore Pat Collins made seven saves in goal, logging just over 56 minutes. His counterpart, Kyle Mullins, was forced into 19 saves at the other end of the field for UD.
Senior Aaron Chun continued his strong run in the face-off circle by winning 15-of-23 on the night and led the team with six ground balls.
The Raiders return to the field Saturday at MLC newcomer Concordia Chicago.
