Raiders Storm Back, Past Concordia Chicago

Box Score

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The MSOE lacrosse team overcame an early 3-0 deficit with 12 unanswered goals to roll to its first conference win of the season, 12-3, over Concordia Chicago Saturday afternoon at Concordia Stadium.

The Raiders (5-5, 1-2 MLC) outshot the Cougars (1-11, 0-4 MLC) 55-18 in the game, putting 40 shots on goal in the match.

Sophomore Clay Gustafson tallied his fifth-straight hat trick with three goals and two assists to lead the way. Sophomores Thomas Reid, Oliver Winsor and Oliver Kennedy scored twice each, while, senior Zach Markell, sophomore Jake Carney and freshman Jack Fisher added goals, as well.

Cal Crawford led CUC with two goals, while Jordan Loeffler added the team's other score.

The Concordia Chicago defense stifled MSOE in the first quarter, as the Red & White had an 18-7 shot advantage with 13 of those shots put on net. Nonetheless, it was the Cougars jumping out to a 3-0 lead after two goals in the first 2:28 of the game and another with 4:02 to go in the period.

The Raiders got the ball rolling with Reid's first goal at the 0:14 mark of the first quarter. Winsor then scored just 46 seconds into the second quarter with the first of five goals in the frame for MSOE as it took a 6-3 lead into halftime.

Carney and Kennedy expanded the lead with goals in the third quarter before the Raiders finished the game off with four 4th-quarter scores. Two of the goals came 12 seconds apart at 5:21 and 5:09, respectively.

Sophomore Pat Collins made eight saves on the day for the win. Meanwhile, Noah Bachofen kept CUC in the game as much as he could with 28 saves in the match.

Senior Aaron Chun was dominant on the face-off, once again, winning 14-of-18 to push his season winning percentage to .665. He's won 90-of-123 (.731) over his last seven games. He also led the way with eight ground balls.

The Raiders committed just 11 turnovers in the game, compared to 33 by Concordia Chicago, and won the ground ball battle, 44-13.

MSOE returns to the field Wednesday at Concordia Wisconsin.
