Men's Soccer Sees Win Streak Snapped vs. Benedictine

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's soccer team saw its four-game winning streak end at the hands of Benedictine with a 3-1 defeat on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.

The Raiders (9-4, 5-2 NACC) struggled to get their offense on track against the Eagles (10-5, 5-2 NACC), striking for an equalizer before the visitors tacked on a pair of goals for the difference.

Trailing 1-0 after a sixth-minute score, MSOE pulled even in the 37th minute after some nifty give-and-go between senior Sean Tabbert and sophomore Drew Baumann at the top of the box. The end result was a Baumann lay-off that Tabbert knocked into the goal from 18 yards out to level the score at 1-1.

Benedictine would pull ahead minutes before halftime, as a hard-hit shot from distance proved too much to handle and Lukasz Sulka pounced on the rebound, one-timing it into the back of the net for a 2-1 lead in the 40th minute.

The goal would stand up as the winner, with the Eagles tacking on an insurance goal late.

Junior Riley Bruce made six saves in goal for the Red & White, which was outshot 17-13 on the day.

The match had been scheduled to start at 1 p.m. but was delayed until 2 p.m. due to lightning in the area.

The Raiders return to action Wednesday when they host Concordia Wisconsin. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
