Lacrosse Can't Hold Off CUW in Home Finale

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE lacrosse team led 4-3 before Concordia Wisconsin scored three times within a minute to take the lead for good and secure a 9-6 victory Wednesday evening at Viets Field.

The Raiders (11-4, 4-4 MLC) had scored four unanswered goals to overcome an early 3-0 deficit before the Falcons (11-5, 6-1 MLC) went on an insurmountable 5-1 run.

Freshman Quinn Erdmann led the offense with two goals and two assists while sophomore Collin Fischer also scored a pair of goals. Seniors Clay Gustafson and Thomas Reid also scored in the game.

CUW opened scored three goals to open the game, striking for the opener just 47 seconds into the game and taking a 3-0 lead at the 9:30 mark.

Gustafson got the Raiders on the board with the first of four unanswered goals with 55 seconds remaining in the opening quarter. MSOE then outscored the visitors 2-0 in the second quarter, with Fischer scoring at 11:47 and Reid tying the game 1:05 to go before halftime.

Erdmann gave the Red & White the lead at 4-3 at 7:41 of the third quarter.

Just after the ensuing face-off, the Raiders were whistled for an illegal body check. It gave CUW a one-minute, unreleasable man advantage in which it scored three times at 7:16, 6:52, and 6:30 to overtake MSOE for a 6-4 lead.

Fischer pulled a goal back just over a minute into the fourth quarter but the Falcons answered back 12 seconds later and added another goal at 9:33 for a three-goal advantage. The deficit proved insurmountable as the teams traded one more goal each.

The Raiders and CUW took 30 shots each in the game with MSOE committing two less turnovers, 19-17, but conceding a 30-22 deficit in ground balls. Sophomore Jacob Killian caused three turnovers in the game while sophomores Max Marquette and Will Borup forced a pair of miscues each.

Sophomore Colin Hall made his first collegiate start and stopped four shots in just under 52 minutes of action in the cage. Senior Pat Collins added a save to close out the game.

The Raiders close out the season Saturday at Marian.
