Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ill. – Three days after a thrilling comeback against Dominican, third seeded MSOE men's soccer was looking to punch their ticket to the NACC championship game when they took on second seed Aurora on the road. Each team traded goals in the second half but a textbook corner kick by the Spartans ended the Raiders postseason journey via a 2-1 score on Wednesday afternoon.
RESULT
No. 3 MSOE RAIDERS – 1
No. 2 Aurora – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Third seeded MSOE (13-3-4, 7-2-3 NACC) came into their semifinal matchup with some unfinished business against second seeded Aurora (9-3-6, 7-2-3 NACC) as the Spartans represented one of the two Raider losses on the NACC season. Neither of the teams found the scoreboard in the first half which only ratcheted up the tension heading into the second frame.
- The Spartans would be the first to break through though. AU played a ball up through the middle of the field which snuck by the Red and White keeper for first goal of the contest.
- However, the Raiders would not be denied. The Red & White would be awarded a penalty kick opportunity and the failed conversion turned into a Tanner Cellio goal off the rebound that allowed the Raiders to tie the game at 1-1 with less than 13 minutes left to play.
- Unfortunately, an Aurora corner kick attempt ended the Raiders NACC season with three and a half minutes left as the ball found the back post giving the Spartans the 2-1 win.
