Raiders Thump Rams With Strong Offensive Showing

Box Score

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – MSOE men's lacrosse hit the turf for the first time in a week and were looking to keep their powerful offensive attack going against Cornell College. After beating Northland 13-2 seven days ago, the Raiders put up 17 goals on the Rams and walked away with a 17-8 win on Saturday afternoon.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 17
Cornell College – 8

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Cornell (3-5) scored the first goal of Saturday's contest, but it was all MSOE (3-1) in the first half from that point on. The Raiders rattled off 11 straight tallies before Cornell broke the streak right before halftime to give the Red & White an 11-2 lead heading into the intermission.
  • The Rams tried mounting a comeback and scored six out of the next eight goals to cut the Raiders advantage down to just five with eight minutes left to play.
  • However, MSOE quickly shut the door on the Cornell resurgence. Tanner Whipps scored three straight in 1:07, two of which were on the man-up attempt. Riley Woyatas then put another one in the net just 29 seconds after Whipps last strike to close out the scoring and give the Raiders a nine-point victory.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The Raiders are now 5-1 against the Rams and haven't lost since to Cornell since March of 2016.
  • MSOE was successful on 22 of their 26 clearing attempts and won more than half the faceoffs between the two clubs.
  • Sam Thompson (2), Liam Brown (5), Peter Ruschenberg (3), Whipps (3), and Woyatas (2) all had multiple goals in the contest. Bennett Harris and Soren Savard each contributed one goal apiece.
