Box Score CHICAGO – MSOE men's lacrosse opened up NACC play this afternoon after a solid start to the season via non-conference play as they took on Illinois Tech in the Windy City. The Scarlet Hawks and rain tried to put a damper on the Raiders efforts but they were still able to notch league win number one on Saturday afternoon.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 10
Illinois Tech – 5
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a low scoring first half between MSOE (-2, 1-0 NACC) and Illinois Tech (3-5, 0-1 NACC) as both teams dealt with the less than favorable conditions. The Scarlet Hawks wound up with the lone first quarter goal before the Raiders got on the board. Liam Brown, Peter Ruschenberg, and Riley Woyatas each scored in the second frame along with two IIT tallies to head into the intermission tied 3-3.
- Things picked up for the Red & White in the third though. MSOE scored three unanswered, with goals coming from Brown, Tanner Whipps, and Sam Thompson to go up 6-3 and added two more thanks to Brown and Ruschenberg to take a four-goal lead into the final 15 minutes of play.
- The Raiders tacked on two more insurance tallies in the fourth with credit going to Ruschenberg and Jerred Willhelm and while IIT added one with 28 seconds left, it was much too late to prevent the Red & White from walking away with a 10-5 victory.
RAIDER REMARKS
- Today was just the second ever meeting between MSOE and IIT. The Raiders won the first matchup 10-3 almost exactly one year ago.
