Box Score MILWAUKEE – MSOE men's lacrosse welcomed Cornell to Viets Field in search of their first win of the season. A fast start by the Raiders and solid defense allowed the home team to cage the Rams and grab a 15-7 win on Sunday afternoon.
RESULT
Cornell – 7
MSOE RAIDERS – 15
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (1-3) jumped out to a lightning quick start in their 2023 home opener, scoring three goals in the games first three minutes. John Kubicki netted the opening score just 47 seconds in and was followed with strikes from Sam Thompson and Tanner Whipps.
- Cornell (2-7) tried their best to keep pace but it was clear things were not going to fall in their favor. The Rams were outscored 5-2 in the first quarter and faced a 7-4 deficit at halftime.
- The Raiders poured it on again in the third with another five tallies, including three straight from sophomore Peter Russchenberg to give the Red & White a commanding seven goal advantage heading into the last 15 minutes of play.
- Cornell netted two straight in the fourth to pull within six, but Kyle Hedblom and Dawson Smith closed the door on any comeback chance by offsetting those scores with goals of their own. Thomas Miles stopped 11 shots and the Red & White defense forced the Rams to cough up the ball 30 times in an eight goal victory.
RAIDER REMARKS
- The Raiders are 6-1 all time against Cornell and have scored at least 12 goals in each of their last five meetings.
