2024-25 Moments of the Year (No. 9): Women's Basketball Upsets St Norbert

MILWAUKEE – Throughout the month of July, Raider Athletics will look back on the Top 10 moments of the 2024-25 seasons.  Coming in at #9 is MSOE Women's Basketball's upset of St. Norbert College on February 5th.  The Raiders bested the Green Knights by a final score of 53-47, beating St. Norbert for the first time in program history, and handing SNC their first and only conference loss of the regular season.

MSOE broke out the full-court press to contain the Green Knights coming out of the gates, as the Raiders converted the first field goals of the game from Dani Mendez and Shelby Glodowski.  St. Norbert would go on a 10-0 run as they began to get in rhythm against the frantic defense of the Raiders, but the Raiders were able to even the game up on another layup from Mendez.  A buzzer-beating three from Elly Kohl would put MSOE up 13-10 at the end of the first frame to the ovation of the Kern Center faithful.

In the second quarter, St. Norbert would hold the Raiders to just 9% from the field, as the Green Knights took a six-point lead into the break, up 24-18 over the Red and White.  Coming out of the halftime break, Mahima Chokshi looked to get the Raiders back in gear, nailing a three to cut the deficit in half.

Lana Kerley would feed off Chokshi, hitting three straight from three-point range for a nine-point swing in favor of MSOE.  The Raiders run would reach 14-0 after Kerley was fouled on a three-point attempt and drained all three shots from the charity stripe. Kerley would finish with a 22-point 11-rebound double-double.

SNC would not go quietly, stifling the Raiders offense in the fourth quarter as they brought the deficit back within a single possession.  With just over a minute to play, Mendez would convert from down low, putting the Raiders up 48-44 as St. Norbert resorting to fouling the Red and White the rest of the way and the Red and White locked up the victory.

The Raiders finished the season with a final record of 15-12, including a 9-3 record at the Kern Center.  The Raiders posted a 10-6 conference record, and saw three players named to the All-NACC teams, with Chokshi and Kerley earning spots on the First Team and Mendez earning a spot on the Second Team.
