Box Score MILWAUKEE – MSOE men's soccer had a flair for the dramatic on Thursday night when they beat Marian in double overtime to advance to today's NACC North championship match. Waiting for them was No. 4 seed Wisconsin Lutheran, a team that knocked off top seeded Concordia Wisconsin earlier in the week. The Warriors took the Raiders to their limit but nothing was going to stop the Red & White from taking their place on the throne of the north division on Sunday afternoon.
RESULT IN DOUBLE OVERTIME
No. 4 Seed Wisconsin Lutheran – 0
No. 2 Seed MSOE RAIDERS – 0
MSOE wins in penalty kicks 4-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
No. 2 seed MSOE (7-2-1, 6-2-0 NACC North) must like playing in double overtime games as the Raiders competed in their third straight contest that went into 2OT. They were on the losing end to CUW last Sunday before winning their semifinals matchup against Marian on Thursday. No. 4 seed Wisconsin Lutheran (4-3-3, 2-3-2 NACC North) decided to take the Red & White to the limit as well, but this time there would be no winner in that second extra frame. The match would end in a tie and the NACC North divisional title would be decided on penalty kicks. Surprisingly, keeper Ron Marchionna would be the first to step up to the line, but his shot would sail high of the net after WLC made their first-round try. Fortunately, that did not prove to be an issue. Lucas D'Amato, Carson Albert, and Javier Perez all buried their attempts which would send Lu Shi Peng Xiong to the line with the duel tied 3-3. The pressure was on but the freshman was up for the challenge. He converted on his strike, giving the Red & White the 4-3 shootout win and the honor of being called the 2020-21 NACC North Divisional Champions.
