Box Score WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The possibilities were all over the map for MSOE men's soccer heading into their final game of the 2022 regular season. They still had a chance to win the NACC regular season title, but they also could fall in the standings and lose out on homefield advantage in any round. While they didn't get the win after a 2-2 tie with Wisconsin Lutheran, the Raiders still secured a share of the NACC crown but also lost out on a first round bye at the same time.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Wisconsin Lutheran – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (12-2-4-, 7-2-3 NACC) opened up the ballgame with rapid fire goals and it looked like they'd be sailing their way to a blowout against Wisconsin Lutheran (9-3-5, 6-2-4 NACC). Zach Thompson helped the Raiders get on the board first with an unassisted strike at 7:48 before Michael Rohrman helped out on Freddy Comparato's ninth goal of the season in the 15th minute.
- Unfortunately, that is where the Red & White offense both started and stopped. Of WLC's nine shots in the game, only three were on goal. However, two of those three found their way to the back of the net. Tallies in the 45th and 63rd minutes allowed the Warriors to tie the game and keep their own postseason hopes alive.
- The Raiders had a chance to win the ballgame with just a few minutes left but the shot hit square off the crossbar to deny the excellent scoring opportunity. The rest of the way went scoreless, handing the Red & White their fourth tie of the season via a 2-2 decision while also eliminating WLC from postseason contention.
RAIDER REMARKS
- The Warriors haven't been an easy out for the Red & White as of late. MSOE still holds a 5-2-3 record in their last ten games between the two teams though.
- The Raiders won a share of the NACC regular season championship, a title which they will share with Aurora and Concordia Wisconsin. However, due to tiebreakers, MSOE doesn't get the first-round bye and must enter the tournament as the third seed.
